Twitter TipsHi printscommunity!, In our last poll we asked about your use of Twitter in promoting your Prints. Well, the community has spoken and a number of you have asked for some tips on how to better use Twitter to promote your work. So, we've put together some tips for you on how to leverage the Twitter platform in marketing yourself. Twitter is different from dA, facebook, and tumblr in a number of ways. Perhaps the most important is brevity. Most tweets live and die in a matter of minutes. The vast majority of tweets die in the first hour. Also, you only have 140 characters to say what you want. So how the heck are you gonna use this thing to market your prints? Here is a list of things that we've found to be massively helpful. Build your followers: The more followers you have, the more networks you connect to. By building a massive stable of followers, you will increase your chances of touching some of them and getting your me

PE: Daily Deviations - The Myth and the LegendDaily Deviations, or DDs . . . for some deviants, receiving one is the epitome of awesomesauce in the deviantART world. For others, they are a nice way to show off the work of lesser-known artists. Still others treat them as a special way to bring attention to great art that exemplifies works being done by a particular gallery or community.Perhaps because there are so many different ways of conceptualizing DDs, there are also many myths and misconceptions. I would like to address some of those myths by responding to the ones most frequently heard. Please note that these opinions are mine and reflect my experiences with the photomanipulation community, but perhaps they will be informative nevertheless.Myth 1: DDs should always be perfect. To many of us, the ideal Daily Deviation goes to an artist with amazing talent whose work draws you in and makes you think, "Wow, everyone needs to see this!" A DD should move you, inspire you, and provoke you to think, b
Art History - Interview with Lyricanna:iconarthistoryproject: :iconcommunityrelations: As part of Graphical Art History Month I will be interviewing some of your Community Volunteers Today it's the lovely Lyricanna - Community Volunteer for Fan Art:iconLyricanna:Hi Lyricanna, tell us a little about yourself and your style of Art. Hi, I'm Rhys and when not creating digital dolls, my style runs more towards semi-relaistic-anime mash-up. I mostly work traditionally since it's just easier for me. Also a bit more portable; there are places I can take a pencil and sketchbook that I would not want to take a laptop and tablet What is it that attracts you to Graphical Art?I just like characters; designing, replicating, trying to achieve some meaningful interaction. How much do you think that the roots and origins of Art affect what we create today?Quite a bit; there are still many popular s

PE: Tolerance Towards Daily DeviationsIf you're like me, one of the first things you do every morning is turn on the computer to check the DDs for the day, if you make this a habit sooner or later you'll see something featured that you won't like at all, making you spill your morning coffee all over the screen.Oh the crime! That poor coffee going to waste. Before you hit the Caps Lock button and begin an essay about the drop of quality of DDs, stop. Take a deep breath, maybe walk around for a bit to cool down, and think about what you're going to do. To begin with, complaining about the DD leaving a comment is extremely disrespectful for the artist because most of the time, they didn't even ask to be featured. Instead, take a moment to consider why was it picked, DDs are chosen for far more than just being visually attractive, as the article Daily Deviations - The Myth and the Legend explained; we often look f

Love the Stache!Hi everyone Movember is quickly coming to a close and the shave-off events are eagerly awaited by our Mo'Bros who have suffered through all sorts of mo-mishaps over the last 28 days. For those of you that have participated, I thank you and ask you to make the last two days really count and reach out to your friends and families for those last minute donations. For the rest of you, I am making this final push on behalf of all of the deviantART Sta.sh teams to request that you reach into your pockets and make a donation, regardless of how big or small, to the Movember effort. I realize how hard this may be considering you're likely broke after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but should you find a dollar or two - we would greatly appreciate your donation The amount isn’t important, every little bit helps Movember continue its funding of world-class programs. If you want to know more about what you’ll be helping to fund, you can visit

Hey DA what's this you say?I giggled when I saw this. So much so I had to share! I am subscribed until "Hell Freezes Over" so I am guessing that this means that hell officially freezes on January 18, 2038? Should we start hoarding BBQ supplies and Hudson Bay blankets now? Also, 25 years is soon? WE ARE DOOMED! lol
Infos about the abandoned locationsI know that a lot of you are curious to get more information about the abandoned places in my photos and I receive a lot of questions about them. There is a reason that I don't give any though. I do love abandoned buildings, I see so much beauty in those places. Unfortunately, many people don't.I do act very respectful inside those places, but there are too many idiots out there that don't behave like me.I've seen so much vandalism, theft and other bad things happening to those buildings after they have become popular, that I will do all I can to protect those beauties. Therefore, I don't give any infos about the location (not even the country) or history about them since every little piece of info makes it easier for people to find it.I'll gladly help you with any info about all non-decay related shots, but there is no chance I tell anything about the decaying beauties. No exceptions. Please respect that and don't post any info in the comments, they will be deleted without warning.
INEPT EBAY SALESMAN FAILJust wrote a "stop selling my art" email to this ebay store from England:http://myworld.ebay.ca/banksy-lovers/His sexy excuse for selling stolen art is:"You can find this image on many wallpapers websites and there is no copyrights on it.You should start with all these websites who are permitting everybody to download the image and do whatever you like with it."Oh, la di da.Let me just go after millions of blogs all around the world that re-post my art and write all of them to delete everything.Because that's the most logical thing to do.Essh, some people.Art salesperson, Why u no respect original artists?Image sharing sites like imgur and reddit make it super easy to spread art without ever crediting the original.Even the deviantart DMCA takedown notice is ridiculously long now.Deviantart, why the fuck are you making it so difficult for me to report stolen art? Is it really necessary for me to fill a freaking application with my place of residence, and click on lik
5 must knows for better night photosISOgo to http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Cameras/Camera-Sensor-Ratings/%28type%29/usecase_sportsFind your camera and see what iso settings you can push your camera to and still retain descent image quality, this is especially important when shooting auroras, a high iso sensitivity means you can push the shutterspeed under the magical 8 seconds to retain some of the movement of the aurora in the image.(I personally recommend 6 or less)Preventing STAR TRAILSUse the rule of 600 to keep stars in the picture from trailing/streaking.Divide 600 by the true focal lenght of your lens, true is measured by 35mm full frame, so a 30 mm full frame lens would yield this simple equation: 600/30 = 20 second (or less) exposure and stars will look nice. For cropped sensors you have to time your focal length with 1.5 for Nikon and 1.6 for Canon. So 16 mm wide angle lens on a Canon cropped sensor would equal 25.6mm true focal lengt (16*1.6) giving this equation: 600/25.6 = 23.43 secon

About people leaving deviantARTDon't worry, I do NOT want to leave! The thing I want to talk about is that many many people leave deviantART recently. About 10 people from my watch list left in the last days. They also named some reasons, like "deviantART has become a place for ponies and boobies" or "deviantART was much better in former times, because all the new updates make dA a confusing place".I can also refer to that more and more. It has become more unappealing to me to browse through art on deviantART, and more and more I only stick to the artists and groups I am watching. The front page with its "popular in the last ... hours" feature has become a place for, on the one hand, childish works, and on the other hand, a place for wacking-off men. Unfortunately my self-portraits are used for the second kind, since there are plenty of men who do simply register on deviantART to create collections like "boobs" or "ass" or "sexy" and add my selfies to these collections..What I want to say is that
Notifications for CommissionsA new set of notifications have been added to the Message Center to bring more exposure to artists offering Commissions! Whenever an artist lists a Commission through the Commissions Widget, a notification message will be sent to that artist's watchers, informing them that a new Commission is available. These messages, grouped into a new Activity section of the Message Center, can be enabled or disabled from the deviantWATCH modal on a deviant's Profile and the Manage Friends page.
