Twitter TipsHi printscommunity!, In our last poll we asked about your use of Twitter in promoting your Prints. Well, the community has spoken and a number of you have asked for some tips on how to better use Twitter to promote your work. So, we've put together some tips for you on how to leverage the Twitter platform in marketing yourself. Twitter is different from dA, facebook, and tumblr in a number of ways. Perhaps the most important is brevity. Most tweets live and die in a matter of minutes. The vast majority of tweets die in the first hour. Also, you only have 140 characters to say what you want. So how the heck are you gonna use this thing to market your prints? Here is a list of things that we've found to be massively helpful. Build your followers: The more followers you have, the more networks you connect to. By building a massive stable of followers, you will increase your chances of touching some of them and getting your me

Harassment: A Survival GuideIt's no secret that the members of deviantART are an opinionated bunch! For good or ill, there is always plenty to say about art that speaks to them. This is great, yet amidst those opinions you're bound to get reactions that are nothing more than word pollution or troll bait. CEA Blog: How to Report an Underage DeviantHiya deviants! It's always pretty unfortunate when we find a talented young artist here on dA when they are just too young to hold an account with us. Today I would like to talk about what to do when you stumble across a deviant that is under the age of 13 years old.So what do we consider to be "underage" and what does dA do about it?dA complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, meaning we prohibit any child under the age of 13 from opening and using a dA account. Even with parental permissions this restriction must stay in place. When an underage kiddo is brought to our attention their account will be closed automatically. COPPA closed accounts are kept as they are until their owner reaches our minimum required age. Upon verification of their age their account can be restored to active status and all its contents will still be there. For more information on what COPPA is please go here: COPPA.org.So what do I do
Deviousness Award Interview with IttiWhat is this Awesome Achievement? The Deviousness Award is an accolade which is traditionally handed outon the 1st of every month to one truly outstanding deviant. The Deviousness Award for July 2012 goes to Itti.Hi Itti! Could you please give us an introduction of who you are and what do you do on and off DA? Hi I'm a mathematician living in Edinburgh, looking to get into computer programming. I'm 25 and a girl. People describe me as geeky, enthusiastic, thoughtful, shy, friendly, creative, and terrible at talking about myself. On deviantART I run a little group called Artcrossing where you exchange art or craft gifts in the mail (more about that later
Spirit Day 2012"Ultimately, I want Spirit Day to make just one person feel little bit better about his or herself, to feel safe enough in their own skin and to be proud of who they are" - Brittany McMillanIn memory of the young LGBT people who lost their lives to suicide, Brittany encouraged her friends to wear purple on a day in October -- a day that came to be known as Spirit Day. Since then, GLAAD has helped turn Spirit Day into a global event that inspires millions of individuals, celebrities, TV personalities, media outlets, companies and schools to wear purple in a stand against bullying. While Spirit Day does focus on the LGBT community, I believe that it's anti-bullying message is relevant to every community. It only get's better, if we take the pledge to make it so. Practice compassion and understanding, and treat others how you would like to be treated and we can make a difference. Show your support for this anti-bullying me

Here is what I know is going on in our community. Please welcome . . .Every week we will try to feature a new member of our community. If you know of a new member (who has been here 6 months or less) and want to have a "welcome" feature for them, please note their name to ChisSweetArt.This week, we are welcoming WriteGirl, Tanya, a writer-turned-manipulator! She has been in our community for about a month, and she has already contributed a great deal through her nicely-developing artistry and inspiring sense of creativity. Stock and Resources UpdatesLETS TALK ABOUT STOCK "REQUESTS"Every year we get excited, eager, passionate new stock providers entering our small but growing community, and every year these new stock models in particular get targeted by a small group of "requesters" Those of us who have been on the site for more than a few years recognise the types of "requests" I'm talking about and know to absolutely avoid them at all costs, but its something that I've seen more and more regularly over the last few months, and its definitely a concern. There are standard "pose requests" that are NOT requested for the "artist" to work from. They are simply asking you to take photos of yourself in provocative poses so they can get off to your stock.Firstly - please keep in mind that the images you are providing to artists are STOCK ART - they are first and foremost designed to provide artists with useable, useful references, either for traditional art, or digital art or whatever media they choose to create
Past dA Contests 2010 - 2000 :iconcommunityrelations: communityrelations :iconcommunityrelations:Community Projects: deviantART CONTESTS from Years Past:Part of "My Gallery" is being able to DD from any deviantART contest that is officially over and the prizes awarded. Perusing past contests is a great way to find wonderful deviations that may have been overlooked by the community. Using the search under "Contests" the sub-cats are listed by year, so it is just a matter of choosing a year then choosing the contest to see many, many wonderful works that had been entered into past contests.Bear in mind, the contest gallery is HUGE! There are many, many contest listings under most years that dA has existed. Perusing all these contests would take a rather long time, so I'll just pick and choose a FEW to feature from each year (links to the contest galleries provided). Year 2010

Drawing From LifeWhen I was in school, our life-drawing teacher had us focus on just one area of the model's body as we drew, attempting to form an impression of the rest of that body by staring only at one focal point.Gradually, the arms and legs would burn into the periphery of what we saw while we were staring at the model's left eye, for example, and it was that peripheral impression we'd try to convey with our stumps of vine charcoal, hopefully resulting in drawings that replicated what we actually saw, as opposed to what a camera might see. That kind of focus and concentration brings on an easy, trance-like state, and unveils the beauty of human flesh, no matter what shape it's in-- models who would likely never turn up on the cover of Italian Vogue would nonetheless glow under the spotlights of the classroom, and you'd see what a miraculous thing it is for the human body to absorb and reflect light; how that light defines shape and casts differing intensities of shadow. We'd come away
