A Contest in Time A Milestone of the New AgeWhen deviantART and Five Four decided to let the community take the lead, it is only with the passage of time and chance moment of retrospective that the memories of an event from a decade past reveal that event to have been a harbinger of things to come – a prescient preview but of how people would very soon be changing the way they live their lives, and even defining their lives; a fundamental turn in what is to be valued in life and how to live it.  The event of note occurred at the dawn of a new century and involved a group of young men were starting up a new apparel company not so much as a way to get rich (the old century paradigm) but as a way to express themselves and their lifestyle (the new century paradigm).

Spirit Day 2012"Ultimately, I want Spirit Day to make just one person feel little bit better about his or herself, to feel safe enough in their own skin and to be proud of who they are" - Brittany McMillan
In memory of the young LGBT people who lost their lives to suicide, Brittany encouraged her friends to wear purple on a day in October -- a day that came to be known as Spirit Day. Since then, GLAAD has helped turn Spirit Day into a global event that inspires millions of individuals, celebrities, TV personalities, media outlets, companies and schools to wear purple in a stand against bullying.
While Spirit Day does focus on the LGBT community, I believe that it's anti-bullying message is relevant to every community.  It only get's better, if we take the pledge to make it so. 
Practice compassion and understanding, and treat others how you would like to be treated and we can make a difference.

In our last poll we asked about your use of Twitter in promoting your Prints. Well, the community has spoken and a number of you have asked for some tips on how to better use Twitter to promote your work. So, we've put together some tips for you on how to leverage the Twitter platform in marketing yourself. 
Twitter is different from dA, facebook, and tumblr in a number of ways. Perhaps the most important is brevity. Most tweets live and die in a matter of minutes. The vast majority of tweets die in the first hour. Also, you only have 140 characters to say what you want. So how the heck are you gonna use this thing to market your prints?

A short time after I joined dA (like 2 months, maybe), I started frequenting the chatrooms as well, I just went to :#thumbsshare:, and met lots of people and shared art and all. Afterwards, with !Magaman (who I met in :#thumbsshare: ), we created #GladiatorArena, which was a rpg based game, with a bot he coded, but sadly he got really busy with work and stuff, and we couldn't continue with that project.

I've been on dA for 4 years now and I have been using dAmn for about a year now :meow: I had made my own chatroom ages ago, but never used it really. It was just something I made since I was able to. I was busy exploring other aspects of dA and my chatroom was left behind :XD: I then attended some chat events and enjoyed talking to deviants in the chats.

The Gallery Clean-up Project will focus on literally cleaning up the category tree in several ways. This first part of this project, is all behind the scenes.  Over the years there have been categories that have been "removed", merged, or changed and there are back-end changes that need to be done to fully remove them from the tree. This part will not affect you, and if everything goes properly, you won't even notice it :D
